Apparently George Zimmerman has been busy with a new hobby and is now ready to show the world his artistic side by offering his original artwork on eBay.

According to News 13, Zimmerman’s brother, Robert, confirmed that the painting is genuine and the eBay user “therealgeorgez” is, in fact, the real George Zimmerman.

The auction’s description gives a sneak peek into the inspiration behind the artwork:

“First hand painted artwork by me, George Zimmerman. Everyone has been asking what I have been doing with myself. I found a creative, way to express myself, my emotions and the symbols that represent my experiences. My art work allows me to reflect, providing a therapeutic outlet and allows me to remain indoors :-) I hope you enjoy owning this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it. Your friend, George Zimmerman.”

The piece is 18x 24-inch on canvas with an all-American theme. The American flag painted in various shades of blue is waving, as if blowing in the wind, and highlights a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance. On the darker stripes of the flag, the words “One Nation” are situated under the word “God,” followed by “with Liberty and Justice For All.” In the lower left corner George Zimmerman’s signature can be seen.

The painting was originally listed for only 99 cents, but held a reserve. The reserve has since been met and in less than 24 hours the painting has already attracted an astonishing amount just shy of $100,000. And the auction still has four days remaining too.

Fetching such large numbers, the original artwork may indeed prove to bring joy to Zimmerman this Christmas. Or perhaps he’ll use the proceeds to pay off part of his reported $2.5 million legal debts, which seemed to have continued to soar since the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin last February.

Just months after his acquittal of the death of Martin, Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, revealed that she had filed for divorce. The two had been involved in a very public domestic dispute in which Zimmerman allegedly threatened his now ex-wife, who later decided that she did not wish to pursue pressing charges.

Then, two months later, Zimmerman’s girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, called the police following an argument between the two in which Zimmerman allegedly trashed Scheibe’s home and threatened her with a shotgun. Zimmerman was arrested and faced various charges which led to a no-contact order, house arrest and Zimmerman having his right to possess guns or ammunition revoked. However, Scheibe has since decided that she “wants to be with him” and dropped all the charges.

So while Zimmerman is now legally allowed to have his guns back — again, he’s apparently opted to spend more time with oils and canvas instead.
