U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- To say that Gavin McInnes is a controversial figure would be an understatement. Gavin co-founded Vice Media and Vice Magazine. He has been a frequent guest on Fox News, The Joe Rogan Experience, and The Blaze. He host “The Gavin McInnes Show” on Compound Media and was a contributor on Rebel Media.

Gavin is also known as “the Godfather of the Hipster movement”. He has trolled many journalists. He convinced a reporter from the Village Voice that he was knocked out in an MMA bout. He then went on to convince a guy from Gawker that he ate a bowl of urine soaked corn flakes.

Gavin also founded The Proud Boys. They consider themselves a fraternal order of “western chauvinists”. The Proud Boys came into the national spotlight after fighting Antifa in Berkeley California.

I had a chance to speak with “one of hipsterdom’s primary architects”  and here is what he had to say.

Gavin McInnes Interview

John: What is your background?

Gavin: Scottish kid born in England. My parents grew up poor but me and my brother had a bucolic middle class childhood in Canada. Moved to NYC in 1999 and now I got 3 kids.

John: How did you come to co-found Vice Media?

Gavin: Being an anglophone in Quebec is like being a Mexican in Japan. The only jobs we could get were weird government programs like a diversity calendar called Voice of Montreal that me and cofounder Surroosh Alvi hijacked and turned into a punk zine in 1994. Then I hired my childhood friend Shane Smith to do sales and we completely took it over. We moved out and changed the name to Vice but the government still tried to sue us. We paid them off and became independent by 1996.

John: Why did you leave Vice?

Gavin: There are a million interpretations of this. There’s the “they sold out” version and the I became too controversial version. Basically, we stopped respecting each other. They didn’t like what I did and I didn’t like what they do.

John: You promote “Western Chauvinism”. Would you mind explaining what that is?

Gavin: Dictionary definition – We are fiercely proud of the West. This is the greatest culture in the world and we need to stop apologizing for it.

As Pat Buchanan says, we’re not perfect and we have made mistakes but nowhere on earth do so many people enjoy so much freedom. You’re welcome.

John: On the topic of “Western Chauvinism”, you created a group called The Proud Boys. Can you talk a little about what that group is about?

Gavin: It’s like the Elk’s Lodge. We’re just a bunch of guys who like to drink beer and talk about how great the West is.

Liberals entire worldview is based on shame: We stole this land from the Indians and used slaves to make it work. They don’t mind if we’re constantly apologizing but when Proud Boys come along and say, “No. We didn’t steal anything. That’s history. It’s all warring tribes. And we didn’t start slavery. We ended it. We’re proud of what we created here.”

The controversy surrounding Proud Boys is a real mirror on society. Local politicians are demanding we be shut down. How? People are losing their jobs for associating with us. The ADL is warning the world about us, and what do we do? We drink beers and goof off.

We are all races, sexual preferences, and religions. It’s just a normal men’s club. Why do people care so much about a private club? These used to be everywhere. All over Britain and America and Canada from the 1600s up to the 1980s, and then feminism decided men shouldn’t hang out and that was that.

The fact that something so benign is considered so controversial is proof the pendulum has swung too far to the left.

John: The Proud Boys seem to have a lot of run ins with Antifa (Antifascist) at free speech rallies. What do you think the end goal of Antifa is?

Gavin McInnes: Sabotage. They have no plan B. They’re petulant brats who live with their parents. They want to burn society to the ground and have nothing to replace it. This is why they are so happy to use jihadists and sharia advocates like Linda Sarsour.

They don’t care who the henchman are, as long as they get the job done. The irony is, if these people get their way, they’ll be the first to go. I could survive a sharia dictatorship. They wouldn’t.

John: People on the left like to point out that to join the Proud Boys people have to get beat up while reciting breakfast cereals and getting a Proud Boys tattoo. To me that seems like a troll. The first part of the question is it a troll, and if so why do they fall for it?

Gavin: It’s not that serious but there is some thought behind it. You need to be able to keep your cool and think straight under pressure. It’s the same thinking behind the screaming insults you get in the military and at the police academy. It’s also a good way to bond. It’s also funny.

John: Depaul University banned you from speaking on their campus after pressure from Antifa. They originally approved your speech. How did they inform you that you were banned?

Gavin: I learned about it in the press. Speaking of jihadists. They had a fundraiser for Rasmea Odeh who blew up two Israeli men. I’m an unashamed Catholic and I’m banned but terrorists get the red carpet. Nice priorities for the largest Catholic school in the country.

John: It seems like more and more campuses are acting as thought police and banning opposing viewpoints even though most studies have found millennials to be more libertarian than previous generations. Is this a case of the squeaky wheel gets the grease, or an agenda by the professors?

Gavin McInnes: Both. Professors are Marxists who are regurgitating the propaganda their professors told them and they’ve never been in the real world so they can’t see how unrealistic it all is. Most students are sane but the mentally ill sheep who fall for this crap are very shrill, very loud, and very effective.

John: You are a contributor with Rebel Media. How did you come to work with them?

Gavin: I’ve always been a fan of Ezra Levant and the incredible work he’s done fighting the Canadian Human Rights Commission. They are a corrupt mafia that extorts money from random Canadians based on some nebulous definition of “equality.”

John: Your podcast is also on Compound Media which is owned by Anthony Cumia who was the former host of The Opie and Anthony Show. How did you get hooked up with Anthony?

Gavin McInnes: I had my life shut down for an article called, “Transphobia is perfectly natural.” The same thing happened to him when he went on a tirade on Twitter about some random black chick who attacked him. He created an island of misfit toys for people who were fired for thought crimes and I was an obvious fit.

John: It seems like you take real pleasure in screwing with the leftist. Why do you get such a kick by trolling them?

Gavin: It’s that or just take their abuse. They’re violent. They want us killed. I’m not just going to sit here and take it. I’m going to fight for our right to enjoy ourselves. America isn’t just the most free place on earth, it’s also the most fun.

John: Is there any future project you have upcoming?

Gavin: I have some major moves coming at the end of August. Stay tuned.

John: How can people follow your adventures fighting the left?

Gavin: My Twitter account until it gets shut down. https://twitter.com/Gavin_McInnes
