Kennesaw, GA -(AmmoLand.com)- Game & Fish, a national sporting magazine with a network of 28 state and regional editions, reviewed the latest side-by-side vehicles and evaluated them from the perspective of a hunter.

The magazine editors and industry experts examined and tested six popular side-by-sides, also called UTVs. The articles appear in the magazine’s June 2016 issue, which is on newsstands now. The authors looked at price, performance, bed space and other features. The authors and editors determined one vehicle — Honda’s Pioneer 1000-5 — was the “Standout” among the group.

According to Senior Editor John Geiger, the 1000-5’s transmission made the vehicle the obvious choice. “Anyone who drives a manual transmission car or truck knows how important it is to be able to choose your own gear,” said Geiger. “Honda’s steering column paddle-shifter gives you that control in a UTV.”

Honda also beefed up the clutch on the vehicle. It’s actually a beltless dual clutch that the company has perfected in their dirt bikes.

“One clutch handles even-numbered gears and the other, odd. The right gear is always right there waiting for you. It’s delightful,” Geiger wrote in the article.

Game & Fish reviewers Peter B, Mathiesen, Derrek J. Sigler, and Regional Editor Shaun Epperson noted that vehicles must have sufficient cargo space. Without it, they are not much use to hunters, who expect to transport gear and game. Torque was also important because often hunters expect to pull food-plot implements with their UTVs.

Other 2016 vehicles reviewed include Polaris General, Bad Boy Stampede, Can-Am Defender, Yamaha Wolverine Standard, Kawasaki Mule Pro-DX. See the article on the newsstand or the extended reviews at gafmag.com/2016-UTV-reviews.
