A police officer who is also a student at an Albany, Georgia, college was escorted out of class and off of campus Wednesday over carrying his sidearm.
A teacher at Darton State College was apparently uneasy with the idea of the officer wearing his uniform – complete with his service pistol – while in class, and called for him to be thrown out.
Dr. Thomas Ormond, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs at Darton State College, later issued a statement addressing the incident… sort of.
Darton State College is appreciative for the service of our law enforcement, and welcome them as students on our campus. We have apologized to the officer for our misunderstanding when he attended class on our campus, and we regret this happened. We have met with the faculty and staff involved to reiterate the Georgia Law and Darton Policy.
