Former Colts running back dies after accidentally shooting self

The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirmed that the man who accidentally shot himself at a Roseville, Michigan, car dealer was former Indianapolis Colts running back Zurlon Tipton.

Tipton, who was 26, brought his car into the dealer’s service station Tuesday morning. While getting out of the car, Tipton reportedly grabbed a duffel bag that contained two guns. Somehow, one of the guns discharged and the bullet struck Tipton in the stomach.

Immediately after the accident, Tipton was walking and talking before being transported to the hospital. Initial reports indicated that Tipton’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening and a full recovery was expected. However, Tipton’s condition rapidly declined and he later died. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Wednesday.

Tipton played college football at Central Michigan. Then in 2014 and 2015, Tipton played running back for the Indianapolis Colts. His two-year career with the tea consisted of 15 rushes for 28 yards and 11 receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown catch.
