McLean, Va.--(AmmoLand.com)- FNH USA, LLC is proud to be teaming with established optics producer, Leupold as co-sponsor of the 16th Long Range Precision Shooting Competition, held June 7 to 11, 2010, at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland.

This competition will showcase 30 two-man teams representing the finest sniper/counter sniper teams from the United States military as well as local, state and federal law enforcement communities.

Teams will participate in demanding tests of tactical rifle marksmanship, scouting and observational skills, and physical fitness through events including: the Poker Run, a Team Observation Exercise, a Moving Target Phase, a Cold Bore Phase, Range Estimation Exercise, Stationary Phase, a grueling Obstacle Course and Movement Phase, as well as an Unknown Distance Phase. The competition is hosted by Baltimore and the District of Columbia metro area local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Team entry fees are $175 and include beverages for the week and a catered luncheon prior to the awards ceremony. Registration details can be found at: www.fnhusa.com/le/events/events.asp. All remaining proceeds from this non-profit event will be donated to the Special Forces Association and the National Tactical Officer’s Association to help support tactical officers and soldiers who have been wounded in action. Last year more than $13,000 in proceeds was donated to benefit these organizations and their participants.

In past year’s both the Maryland State Police and Baltimore County Police teams have proven to be powerhouses in this event, and this year is no exception. Because of this, Match Director Sgt. Dan Weaver has worked hard to add new elements to each phase in order to make the competition more diverse and well-rounded for the teams it attracts.

“Several of the events have changed this year in areas that will challenge each team’s ability to analyze its strengths and weaknesses when deciding the tactics needed for each event,” said Weaver. “Teams with strong physical abilities and those armed with better technical data will certainly be poised to take advantage of the new event options.”

In addition to trophies, the top teams will receive: first place—two FN SPR A-3G rifles with Leupold optics; second place—two FN SPR A-1 rifles with Leupold optics; third place—two FN TSR XP rifles with Leupold optics; fourth thru 13th place—miscellaneous prizes provided by vendors in attendance.

“We are excited that the vendors are helping out our cause with donations exceeding last year,” responded Weaver. “This year we have also partnered with Walmart to provide comfort items for the competitors between matches. With this year’s challenges in each phase they’ll need it.”

Portland, Oregon-based Leupold & Stevens, Inc., has been involved in the design, machining and assembly of precision optical instruments and other products for over 100 years.
