FN announced this week that they are still fully operational and have debuted a new flat dark earth version of their 509 Midsize MRD pistol.

The 9mm FN 509 Midsize MRD, which comes standard with FN’s Low Profile Optics Mounting System, has a slide that allows the user’s choice of more than 10 different miniature red dot optics. Pitched for the carry market, the 509 Midsize features a 4-inch barrel and a 7.4-inch overall length. Weight is 26.5-ounces and, with a 5.2-inch height, uses a flush-fit 15-shot magazine but can accommodate larger capacity FN 509 mags with use of a sleeve.

The FN 509 Midsize MRD has improved surface controls, is reportedly fully ambidextrous, and has a new flatter-faced trigger.

The striker-fired FN 509 Midsize MRD ships with a pair of modular backstraps in a soft-sided case with 15-round magazines and all optics mounting hardware. For state compliance, versions with 10-round mags will be available.

MSRP is $799.

FN Fully Operational During COVID-19

With two facilities in Virginia and a large factory in South Carolina, FN stressed this week that the company has been designated as an essential business to the Defense Industrial Base by the Department of Defense.

“As COVID-19 continues to impact our nation, our employees, their families, and our customers are at the forefront of thoughts and actions during this unprecedented time,” said Mark Cherpes, president and CEO of FN America in a statement.

“Because we are designated as an essential business by our state and by the Federal government, we remain open and continue to produce but have taken measures to ensure the safety and security of our team while we operate under these circumstances,” Cherpes said. “Our customers depend on us each day to supply them with dependable, reliable firearms and we will continue to support them.”

Cherpes also detailed that FN has implemented telework for those who are able to work remotely and introduced a new program called Patriot Pay, which provides a temporary wage increase to FN employees who are working onsite at the company’s production facility directly engaged in manufacturing operations.
