FL man says homemade explosives are for fishing (VIDEO)

A Broward County, Florida, man was charged with arson and possession of multiple destructive devices after authorities found homemade explosives at his home, but Gregory Knepper claims the devices aren’t weapons and he merely uses them for fishing.

Authorities were called to Knepper’s home twice within 24 hours after neighbors, who say the man is “crazy,” reported a small brush fire and hearing explosions coming from his property.

Authorities found commercial grade fireworks and four explosive devices. The devices, which measured about eight inches long, were made of a silver metal, housed a fuse at one end, and contained various kinds of ammunition. One of the devices also had nails on the outside.

During Knepper’s first court appearance Tuesday, his public defender, Dale Miller, argued against the officers’ description of the devices.

“He told police he uses it for fishing, so it’s not a weapon or destructive device,” Miller said.

To which Broward County Judge John “Jay” Hurley replied, “The story about the fish is not even remotely believable, that you would need a cylinder with nails on it to go fishing.”
