USA -(Ammoland.com)- On November 1st, 2011, Phillip Hofmeister, who would later become MOC’s 5th President, testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of SB 59 ’11, which, at the time, proposed moving CPL issuing from county gun boards to the Secretary of State.

The bill saw many changes over the next 14 months, and was eventually modified to limit Concealed Pistol Free Zones. The bill was passed on December 14th, 2012, at the very end of the legislative session, but was vetoed by Governor Rick Snyder only a few days later on December 18th, 2012.

This veto signaled that Governor Snyder was not honest when he campaigned on a pro-gun platform only two years prior, and thus began a combative relationship between Governor Snyder and the gun community that continues to this day.

Since then, the team has worked very hard to give Michigan’s Second Amendment supporters a voice in Lansing. The Team has worked in support of numerous pro-gun items, like defining brandishing to exclude Open Carry, the elimination of county gun boards, and strengthening our preemption law.

They have also worked against legislation that would harm law-abiding gun owners, such as a proposal to ban on so called “assault weapons”, and successfully built and lead a coalition of gun groups against the falsely labeled “pro-gun” bills SB 442 and SB 561 last year.

Today, the team has grown to four entirely volunteer members and is lead by MOC’s current President Tom Lambert. While the Team is not the best funded or most politically connected, they still manage to keep MOC at the ‘tip of the spear’ of Michigan’s pro-gun movement.

Nearly everything being discussed today, from ending gun free zones, to ending registration, MOC has had a significant positive influence on.
