Weekends — Ecological Reserve Tours at Elkhorn Slough. Volunteers lead walks every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Binoculars and bird books are available for the public to borrow at no cost. The visitor center and main overlook are fully accessible. The day use permit fee is $4.12 per person, ages 16 and older (permits may be purchased on-site). Groups of five should please notify staff that they are coming and groups of 10 or more can request a separate tour.

Weekends — Guided Wildlife Tours at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley (95948), 12:30 p.m. The 90-minute walking tour covers slightly more than a half-mile through this premier birding spot that highlights migratory waterfowl and other wetland wildlife. Tours are cancelled in the event of heavy rain. No reservations are necessary for groups of fewer than 20 people. This land is part of the CDFW Lands Pass Program and its associated fee-for-use requirement.

Various Days — Lands Passes Required on Certain CDFW Properties. Each visitor to a CDFW lands pass property who is 16 years of age or older must carry a lands pass while on the property. Visitors carrying a valid California hunting or fishing license in their own name are exempt from this requirement. School and organized youth group field trips are also exempt. The Lands Pass Program has existed on a limited number of CDFW properties since the 1990s. A daily (one-day) lands pass costs $4.32 and an annual lands pass for 2018 is $25.10. Revenue from lands passes helps support CDFW wildlife areas and ecological reserves.

February 1 — Bear Tag Reporting Deadline for Unsuccessful Hunters (successful hunters must report immediately after take). For more information on tag reporting requirements, or to submit a report online, please visit their website.
February 3 – 4 — Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days. Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days provide young licensed hunters an extra weekend to hunt after the regular season ends. Each year, CDFW opens many of its wildlife areas for these youth hunt days, as allowed under federal regulations. Federal regulations require that hunters must be 17 years of age or younger and accompanied by a non-hunting adult 18 years of age or older to participate. All hunters must have a valid license and stamps as required by state and federal law. The daily bag and possession limits apply along with all other waterfowl regulations for the 2017-18 waterfowl season.

CDFW’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) is holding a public hearing as part of the formal rulemaking process toward the adoption of regulations to implement inland oil spill program requirements in accordance with Senate Bill 861.

CDFW’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) will be presenting regulations governing spill management teams, as required by Assembly Bill 1197. In accordance with Government Code section 11346.45, OSPR is conducting an informal scoping meeting to solicit input regarding these new regulations.

As part of the Conservation Lecture Series, Dr. Sarah Kupferberg will present “Insights learned from Foothill yellow-legged frog field studies relevant to species conservation and recovery”; and Ryan Peek will discuss “Dammed Rivers: Genetic signatures of Altered Flow Regimes in a River Breeding Frog (Rana boylii).” Attendance is free.
