“Ducky Dynasty” star Willie Robertson in an interview with CNN wanted to “clear the air” about patriarch Phil Robertson’s controversial comments regarding homosexuality.
During a GQ interview last year Phil paraphrased a passage from the Bible and likened “homosexual offenders” to bestiality and promiscuity. His comments sparked a salvo of backlash and at one point A&E even briefly suspended him from the program. Now, Willie helps to clarify why his father said what he said.
William says the GQ interviewer “already had what he wanted to put” in the article and was asking Phil “specifically this and that and Phil just said what he thought, you know, what was on his heart.”
William’s wife, Korie Robertson, said that “anybody who knows [Phil]… any gay, straight, black, white — anybody who knows Phil knows that he is about love and his message is about God’s love, God’s grace and his forgiveness, ultimately.”
When CNN’s Kyra Phillips asked William what he be believes, he replied, “I believe what the Bible says.”
