Denver to pay $1M to family of teen who was shot while driving stolen car at cops (VIDEO)

The family of a 17-year-old girl who was shot and killed in 2015 as she drove a stolen car at police officers will receive a $1 million settlement from the city.

Officers said they fired at Jessica Hernandez as she not only refused to comply with commands and stop, but appeared to be accelerating in an attempt to run down officers in the stolen vehicle. The officers involved were cleared of any wrongdoing, but the incident left the police department with some policy changes on the use of force.

In addition to the settlement, Denver police officers will receive training on policy changes and a member of the Hernandez family will be involved in that training.

The city also agreed to provide help to the Hernandez family to set up, organize, and manage a non-profit in remembrance of the teen.
