Bismarck, ND -(AmmoLand.com)- Starting this summer, Delta Waterfowl will host hunter education camps and mentored hunts across four Canadian provinces, supported by a $90,000 conservation grant from Wildlife Habitat Canada.

The Duck Hunters Organization is expanding its recruitment efforts to secure the next generation of waterfowl hunters.

“Recruiting new waterfowlers is crucial to the future of duck hunting and waterfowl conservation,” said Jim Fisher, director of conservation policy for Delta Waterfowl. “WHC’s generous grant will expand our efforts in Canada to introduce new hunters of all ages and genders to waterfowling.”

The grant provides funds for six-day hunter education camps to be held this summer in Ontario and Manitoba, and a one-day course in Prince Edward Island. Campers will learn a number of duck hunting skills, including hands-on participation in decoy placement, duck calling, dog training, shotgunning, wild game cooking and more. Camps will include all courses required to become a licensed Canadian hunter, so participants will leave camp ready to hunt.

The WHC grant will also fund two-day mentored waterfowl hunts in Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia this fall as part of Delta’s First Hunt — the largest waterfowl-specific hunter recruitment program in North America. Participants will learn about safety, hunting skills and conservation before heading to the marshes and fields to hunt ducks and geese.

Funded largely by Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamps purchased by duck hunters, Wildlife Habitat Canada’s Conservation Grant Program has invested more than $50 million in support of 1,500 conservation projects across Canada.

“Delta Waterfowl has always been a key partner for us in delivering projects on the ground,” said Cameron Mack, executive director of Wildlife Habitat Canada. “We are pleased to support Delta’s hunter education and recruitment effort, because it will ensure a new generation of waterfowl hunters who understand the importance of conserving wetlands and waterfowl.”
