Virginia – -(Ammoland.com)- Symantec is ending a partnership deal with the National Rifle Association amid backlash against it after the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

The cybersecurity giant said on Twitter that it “has stopped its discount program with the National Rifle Association.”

Thanks to member Nick Benipayo for sharing this in response to our alert dated March 2, 2018 item 12:

With regard to item 12, Norton antivirus (by Symantec) has a policy that if a product was purchased or renewed in the last 60 days, you may request a full refund.

I went through the process via an online chat with their support center and received a full refund for my subscription that just renewed at the beginning of last month. The chat lasted about 15 minutes. They tried to offer a 50% refund and two years subscription for free, however, on principle, I declined.

When asked why I was leaving, I told them that I cannot willingly spend my money on a company that is hostile to gun owners and gun rights organizations in order to please a small, but very vocal minority.

The support staff was polite and I rendered the same level of respect.

If you have not renewed or purchased a subscription in the last 60 days, but still have an active product, you can cancel your automatic renewal and move to another product at the time your product license expires. I’m sure they measure some consumer metric by the number of auto-renewal subscriptions in effect, and if enough gun owners do this, it may send a message of some sort. Whether they would care or not is anyone’s guess.

As an alternative, there’s Bitdefender, McAfee, and a tremendous amount of other well performing antivirus companies to choose from. I chose to go with bitdefender because of it’s coverage on all of my devices (Mac, windows, Android) with one license and very good reviews.
