Q: What are people surprised to find out about you?
Craig: I love what I do, and wouldn’t trade with anybody…but when people get to know me, I think they are surprised at how hard I have to work, how many deadlines I meet, and how much time I have to spend away from home. I have had and am having a great career…but maybe I envy them.

Q: Any advice to give those just starting out who want to be in outdoor TV?
Craig: Be persistent, and have the hide of rhinoceros. Don’t take rejection personally; try to learn from it, and keep trying. The industry still needs enthusiastic youngsters!

Q: If you could hunt with anyone – alive or passed – who would it be?
Craig: Captain Frederick Courtenay Selous, DSO. The greatest of all African hunters, hunting mentor to Theodore Roosevelt, explorer and conservationist; hunted widely in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America long before air travel existed. Volunteered (from retirement) for active service in World War I; killed by a German sniper in the great game reserve that now bears his name (Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania) in January 1917, days after his 65th birthday. Many of his trophies are still listed in the Rowland Ward record book.

Q: How do you prepare for a hunt? Any unusual routines to share?
Craig: Research is important. In general I work very hard at keeping in shape (which doesn’t get easier!), and I’m constantly practicing my shooting so I’m ready when that one chance comes along.
