Ireland – -(Ammoland.com)- Eating game is cheap, it’s healthy, it benefits the countryside, and it is in season now.

What’s not to like? The number one benefit of eating game is its healthiness.

Research carried out by Leatherhead Food International shows how game compares very favourably with other red and white meats. Venison is high in protein, low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher levels of iron than any other red meat.

Pheasant and partridge also contain a high level of iron, protein, vitamin B(6) and selenium.

A vocal minority continues to try to put people off game by claiming it is harmful due to being shot with lead ammunition – but that agenda actually has more to do with a dislike for shooting than with health issues.

Like all things if eaten in moderation there is no evidence to show that the levels of lead in game are harmful, indeed the European Food Safety Authority has shown that much higher levels of lead can be attributed to everyday foods such as potatoes, cereal products and leafy vegetables. Director of shooting for the Countryside Alliance, Adrian Blackmore said: “We would like to thank all retailers, including supermarkets, that are bringing out new game items this season, really helping us in our cause to promote this British food to the British public.”

Our Game-to-Eat campaign’s brand new recipe leaflet featuring newly created recipes from our development chef Lee Maycock is available now.

About
Countryside Alliance Ireland has been active since the early 1960s, providing Irish sportsmen and women with high levels of information and advice and representation. Over the years as the political environment has changed we have evolved into a highly effective campaigning organisation. Countryside Alliance Ireland is governed by an elected “Board” made up from members throughout Ireland. The Board sets policy and oversees financial and operational matters. Countryside Alliance Ireland partner groups nominate members of the “Board” also, making it truly representative of country sports interests in Ireland. Visit: www.countrysideallianceireland.org
