Washington, DC -(AmmoLand.com)- It is estimated that 38 million Americans are on the water fishing or in the woods hunting.

Those individuals purchase hunting and fishing licenses that contribute to fish and wildlife conservation across the nation through the American System of Conservation Funding. Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) is leading the way for conservation by sponsoring National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF Day.) This annual celebration will take place Saturday, September 24.

“The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation does more than their fair share for conservation, and they also understand that we need to recognize those efforts,” said Misty Mitchell, director of Conservation for Wonders of Wildlife. “NHF Day allows organizations and individuals the opportunity to celebrate conservation in our great Nation. The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation has been a great supporter, and we enjoy having them as a sponsor.”

CSF was established in 1989 to work with Congress, governors and state legislatures to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping. They continually work to protect our heritage and advance our efforts to promote conservation throughout the nation.

Each year, NHF Day selects a representative to act as the voice of sportsmen and women in the role of honorary chair. This year NHF Day selected Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris to serve.

“Introducing new hunters and anglers to the outdoors is crucial to ensuring our traditions in the future,” said CSF President Jeff Crane. “Last year, more than 30 governors signed proclamations recognizing National Hunting and Fishing Day, as well as the economic, social, and conservation benefits that sportsmen and women provide in their respective states and across the country.”

CSF was instrumental in working with the governors’ offices, many of whom are Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC) members, to develop and sign the NHF Day proclamations. CSF is currently working with governors across the country to recognize the 2016 NHF Day.

Generating more awareness of conservation, NHF Day is dedicated to spreading the word through various avenues including social media. Utilizing the hashtag “#1conservationist” will help accomplish this goal.
