Law enforcement officers involved in a lengthy standoff in a Vacaville, California, neighborhood this week got an unexpected – although greatly appreciated – gesture from the community. Residents set up a table filled with bottled water and snacks for the officers, along with signs thanking them for keeping their community safe.

The standoff began Tuesday afternoon after a call from a woman who told police her husband, Jared Williams, 40, was inside their home with a gun to his head. When police responded, the woman and other family members were able to safely get out of the home.

However, Williams refused to come out of the house and became engaged in a standoff that involved the Critical Incident Negotiations Team (CINT) and Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). The tense, potentially deadly incident lasted into the following morning, until Williams finally surrendered once gas was discharged into the home.

No one was injured and the Vacaville Police Department took to their Facebook page to thank the residents for their kind gesture.
