Colorado man facing felony charges after aiming banana at police officers

Nathan Rolf Channing, 27, of Fruitvale, Colorado, is facing a felony menacing charge for pulling a banana on two cops earlier this month.

Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies Joshua Bunch and Donald Love apparently feared for their lives when they believed the brightly colored fruit was actually a firearm. According to an affidavit, Bunch has seen a variety of guns in different shapes and colors. But Bunch yelled at Love, “It’s a banana!” as Love reached for his service pistol, narrowly averting a possible tragedy.

Channing was arrested and later explained that he was doing a practice run for a YouTube video he intended to make to “lighten the holiday spirit.” There’s no word on whether the video has been completed or whether the banana was confiscated by authorities.
