Utah gun maker Cobalt Kinetics announced a new entry level AR called Edge Scout last week for “budget conscious shooters.”

Cobalt’s vice president, Skylar Stewart, said the Edge Scout allows his company to offer premium functionality for a lower price at $1,895. “We have listened to feedback from dealers and the public about the desire for Cobalt’s performance and precision in an entry level package,” he said.

The design maintains the core functionality of the rife in which it is based, the Edge. While it’s still crafted from the same 7075 billet aluminum chassis component, the cost reduction comes from the use of off-the-shelf furniture and controls

Chambered in 5.56, the Edge Scout features the patented dual-drop system with a 16-inch chrome moly barrel tipped with a standard A2 Flash Hider.

Also, the bolt carrier group is black nitride finished, complementing the receivers, stock, and handguard which are Cerakoted in sniper gray. The rifle also has a standard mil-spec trigger.
