Civil War cannons removed from SC river (VIDEO)

With the collective efforts of a team of heavy equipment operators, divers and archaeologists, three Civil War cannons were pulled from South Carolina’s Pee Dee River Tuesday morning.

The 15,000-pound cannons have been submerged under water for more than 150 years, but South Carolina state archaeologist Johnathan Leader said because the historical artifacts have been sitting in fresh rather than salt water, they are perfectly preserved.

It took about 30 minutes to recover each cannon from the river, and they will be transported to the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in North Charleston for restoration, after such time the cannons will go on display at the new VA building in Florence.
