An off-duty deputy fatally shot an armed robber as three crooks closed in on him at a Chicago gas station Monday night.
The off-duty sheriff’s sergeant found himself surrounded by three men as he pumped his gas around 10 o’clock. Deonta Dewight Mackey, 16, held the sergeant at gunpoint and demanded his wallet. The sergeant complied, biding his time before quickly drawing and firing a single, fatal shot, Chicago Tribune reports.
Mackey was struck in the head and collapsed to the ground as the other two suspects fled. The uninjured sergeant grabbed the phone from his car and called 911.
Mackey was later pronounced dead at the scene and police are still searching for the other two suspects.
