U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- When we received the Retriever last year for testing, we believed that it was priced too high, so we put it on the “back burner” of things to do.
When the new year rolled around and we took another look at it, Caldwell had lowered the price. Therefore, we are putting our notes from last year on paper for everyone’s information.
If you are a reloader who collects brass every time you go to the range or if you have a bad back, the Caldwell Brass Retriever is just what “the doctor ordered”. With a handle that expands from 28″ to 57″, it can be effortlessly used by anyone. It works well on dirt, gravel and concrete…. but, not so well on loose sand (not much does). That being said, it will save you a lot of time, effort and pain from bending over to pick up spent brass.
As the website says: “To pick up spent brass, it is just as easy as pushing a mop”… and it is.
Caldwell Brass Retriever
It comes with a roll-cage separator which allows one to easily dump the brass into a bucket. We found that it really wasn’t necessary, as we simply spread the flexible “bars” of the cage by hand and the brass dropped out. And, if you have a lot of brass, you can open either one of the end caps to empty the cage into a bucket.
All in all, this is a really handy and useful tool for the range. Although the MSRP in 2017 is still a bit high, $59.99, you can find it priced on Amazon in the mid-40s. That makes it a better deal and something to seriously consider.
Once again, if you want to collect a lot of brass or have a bad back, we recommend that you spend the money for the Retriever…. your back will thank you.
