Burglars get hung up in middle of heist

Two burglars learned the hard way that a mid-sized sedan isn’t exactly the best getaway car when you’re planning to steal a large safe.

A Texas homeowner was alerted via cell phone of an alarm that was tripped at his home in San Marcos last week, indicating a possible burglary in progress. Authorities arrived at the home within one minute and discovered the suspects unsuccessfully attempting to put the man’s large safe into the back seat of a 2003 Toyota Camry.

Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspects, 20-year-old Joel Rene Perez and 21-year-old Oscar Perez Jr., were arrested and charged with felony burglary of a habitation. Joel was released after posting a $15,000 bond, while Oscar, who is also facing a parole violation, remains behind bars.
