Burglar meets business owner armed with an AK-47 (VIDEO)

A man who broke into an Albuquerque automotive store last weekend was shot by the store owner, who was sleeping at his business after a rash of recent break-ins.

Alderson’s Automotive has a sign posted on the door warning would-be criminals that the owners are armed, but James Jake apparently ignored that sign when he broke a front window and went for the cash register Saturday, February 11.

Jake promptly came face to face with the business owner, who was armed with an AK-47, and the owner fired a single shot, striking Jake in the thigh.

After receiving medical treatment, Jake was placed in police custody on charges of burglary and criminal damage to property. The break-in caused several thousand dollars in damages to the business.

Jake told police he broke into the store to get money to buy diapers for his children.

John Pricer, who works at Disciple Tattoo a few doors down, said the shop has been broken into several times and the store owner is just not willing to give his business away to criminals. Pricer said they try to look out for one another but sometimes it can be difficult, especially at night. That’s why, he said, the owner of Alderson’s Automotive started sleeping in his shop.
