Bloomberg flies to Israel to prove it’s safe (VIDEO)

Although flights have been cancelled due to rockets flying through the sky (and planes falling out of it), former New York City mayor and gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg flew to Israel for what he says will show people that the area is safe.

“Just trying to show that it’s safe and it’s a great place to visit. And Israel has a right to defends it’s people, and they’re doing exactly what they should be doing,” Bloomberg said to a group of reporters following him at JFK airport before his flight to Tel Aviv.

In a statement made yesterday on his website, Bloomberg spoke out against flight restrictions to Israel currently implemented by the FAA.

“Ben Gurion is the best protected airport in the world and El Al flights have been regularly flying in and out of it safely,” Bloomberg said. “The flight restrictions are a mistake that hands Hamas an undeserved victory and should be lifted immediately. I strongly urge the FAA to reverse course and permit U.S. airlines to fly to Israel.”

Bloomberg is the chair and founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which merged with the grassroots organization Moms Demand Action to create Everytown for Gun Safety. Shortly after the merger, Bloomberg supported Everytown with $50 million.
