MONTGOMERY, Ala. -(Ammoland.com)- Spring turkey season in Alabama begins today in all but a few northern counties. Hunters who bag that big gobbler in one of the 23 counties in Alabama’s Black Belt will have a chance to win a $150 prize in the Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association Big Gobbler Photo Contest.
The season runs from March 15 until April 30 – except in Colbert, Franklin, Madison, Winston and parts of Lauderdale, Lawrence and Limestone counties, when the season is April 1 – 30.
In Cullman (north of Lewis Smith Lake and north of Cullman County Road 437 and west of I-65), Lawrence (north of AL Hwy 24), Lauderdale (east of US Hwy 43), and Morgan counties spring turkey season is April 22- 26.
“This year, we are thrilled that Will Foster of Foster Taxidermy in Montgomery will provide a fan, spurs and beard framed mount as our prize,” said Pam Swanner, ALBBAA Project Director. “Mr. Foster does wonderful work and this is a great way to spotlight the Black Belt region’s tremendous hunting opportunities, both at the many private lodges and the many, many acres of public lands.
“Our Facebook contests are a lot of fun for us and for those who love the outdoors activities available in the Black Belt.”
The contest is open to hunters age 12 and older whose photo shows a turkey taken in one of the 23 Black Belt counties in Alabama during the spring 2017 season. Entries must be emailed to photocontest@albbaa.org by May 5.
The photo that receives the most “likes” on the ALBBAA Facebook page (Facebook.com/AlabamaBlackBeltAdventures) will be the winner. The winner will be announced the week of May 8.
Entries should include the name of the hunter and where the turkey was taken. Stories of exciting moments from the hunt are welcome, too!
The 23 Black Belt counties are Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Wilcox.
The 2015 and 2016 Big Gobbler Photo Contest winners are not eligible.
