A 70-year-old woman stopped a man from assaulting her and scared away two intruders after grabbing her gun during a home invasion in Midland, Arkansas, on Nov. 21.

According to local media, two suspects wearing ski masks, black gloves and camouflage entered the woman’s home looking for prescription medication. As one man walked down the hall and into the bathroom straight to the medicine cabinet, the other focused his attention on the woman. She attempted to fight him off, even throwing a chair at him as he attacked her, punched her in the face and pulled on her so hard it tore her clothing.

The woman was finally able to run to her bedroom where she kept her gun, but the suspect followed her, not realizing that she had retrieved a firearm. When the suspect threw her down on the bed, got on top of her and said, “I got you right where I want you,” the woman revealed the gun by pointing it directly at him and proclaiming, “I’ll blow your head off.”

At that point, both suspects ran out of the home and the woman then ran next door to call 911.

When police arrived they searched the area using K-9 units, but the suspects, who are described as white males, about 6-feet tall with a slender build, were not found. Authorities state that they may have been driving a rust colored smaller model truck with damage to the back fender and no license plate. If found the suspects will face charges for aggravated burglary.

The woman was treated by paramedics for minor injuries, including several gashes on her arm from fighting with her attacker.

Neighborhood residents said they were shocked by the incident in the normally quiet area. Barbara Neil has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. She told reporters, “It’s scary. Really, really scary cause nothing like that has ever gone on around here before.”

Sgt. Steve Cox of the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office stated that they believed the suspects had “inside knowledge of the home.”

Neighbors told reporters that the woman still remains shaken up over the terrifying incident.
