In an effort to “ensure that popular emoji characters reflect the diversity of people everywhere,” Apple announced the addition of several new emojis on Monday.
Among the alternate offerings, Apple has replaced the old revolver emoji, which was previously a source of controversy, with a new, more cartoon-like squirt gun.
The newly-designed emojis – which also include female athletes, families and a rainbow flag – will be available in the fall via iOS 10.
