There is certain etiquette to be followed when fallen service members are brought home, but as demonstrated in a recent flight coming into Phoenix, that etiquette is sometimes either unknown or simply ignored.

Retired airman Ken Fitzgerald, who was on that flight, was saddened to see passengers up, out of their seats, and rushing to get off of the plane before the casket of fallen airman SSgt. Andre Taylor was taken off of the plane, despite repeated requests by the flight crew to remain seated.

“I was just in shock,” Fitzgerald recalled. “I was looking at them and I was like, are you kidding me?”

Likewise, Taylor’s sister, Tiffany Dobson, said she was saddened by the disrespect shown by the passengers on the plane, but the family has since received an overwhelming amount of support and love.

Fitzgerald said he isn’t trying to be disrespectful or shame anyone, but he just thinks people need to take a second to stop thinking about themselves and use the moment to think of others.
