Germany’s best attempt at a working semi-auto battle rifle in the Second World War found itself on Hickok45’s table.
Chambered in the same stout 8mm (7.92x57mm) round that is used in the bolt-action Kar 98k Mauser, the Walther-designed Gewehr 43 or Karabiner 43 was Germany’s answer to the Soviet SVT-38/40 and the U.S. M1 series rifles. While its short-stroke piston gas system was somewhat effective, it just wasn’t produced in great enough numbers to make a difference so late in the war.
Hick’s example, a nice (for what it is) 1944-made specimen is all-matching and looks like a nice collectable.
