A Hulk of a show: Brownell’s grand re-opening

The “world’s largest supplier” of guns, gun parts, and accessories, Brownells, will host a gala June 11 to mark the opening of its new retail outlet in Grinnell, Iowa.

The 77-year-old seller of all things firearms welcomes the public to the vendor fair, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at their 3006 Brownells Parkway location.

On hand will be booths and personnel representing 22 major firearms and accessory companies. From 2-5 p.m., television’s “Incredible Hulk”-turned-Second Amendment champion Lou Ferrigno will meet and greet customers.

Area gun enthusiasts will surely line up for a big selection of discounted ammunition, magazines, and other accessories offered by Brownells as part of the celebration.

Vendors with live representation will include, according to the Brownells website, XS Sight Systems, JP Enterprises, Leupold, Benelli, Heckler & Koch, Hornady, EOTech, Lyman, Nikon, Surefire, Vortex Optics, Ruger, Trijicon, Burris, Ed Brown Products, Wilson Combat, Beretta, Glock, Tactical Solutions, Midwest Industries, Remington, and Boyt Harness Company.

The Grinnell location is the third for the company, which began in Montezuma, Iowa, and later moved to Des Moines until this latest expansion. The new facility includes office, warehouse and retail spaces.

The celebration was originally planned for late 2013. In the interim, the company celebrated its diamond anniversary. No reason for the delay has been published.

Brownells began as a family business and retains family involvement. Their growth and success is due at least in part to the company’s willingness to keep up with the times in terms of products offered and their use of social media. Many product demos and learning tools are available through videos the company posts online. There’s a line of survival products, probably called camping products before the prepper movement, in addition to gun-related items.

It’s not easy being old and cool, but like Betty White (we don’t dare call The Hulk old), Brownells just keeps on doing just that. The company has mastered the unusual task of serving virtually all sub-groups of firearms owners including competitors, hunters, tactical types, and backyard plinkers. Their lifetime satisfaction guarantee on every product and membership-like discount program have surely groomed customer loyalty as well.
