BOZEMAN, Mont. (July 16, 2014) – How many times has a bull elk sauntered up to a hide out and stood there within 12 yards of a shot? Tune in for incredible footage of just that on this week’s Federal Premium’s Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg on Sportsman Channel, Thursday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. MT.

freshtracks-missedelk[2]Newberg takes good friend, David Brinker of Sitka Gear, on a fall elk hunting trip in Montana where not only is the trip quite a feat (transportation via helicopter), but the end result is one for the books as well.

“Accessing this narrow and winding piece of public land has become an annual affair that has produced some great results,” said Newberg. “I was hoping in four days to come up with at least one shot encounter. Well, that first night of scouting, we figured out a wallow where the elk were congregating, so all we had to do was build a rock blind and wait it out. Except it wasn’t that simple.”

Renowned outdoorsman for the “On Your Own” hunter, Randy Newberg, continues delivering a fresh take on self-guided public land hunts. This particular hunt had him circumventing private land access with exorbitant fees just to get to landlocked public ground. “When these adjacent ranches offered guided hunts, it was up to $14,000,” said Newberg. “Well I solved that; a helicopter is only $700 per guy.”

Federal Premium’s Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg takes the same self-guided public land story viewers have come to love with his award-winning series, On Your Own Adventures, and tells that story in a deeper “behind the scenes” format.

This season also includes segments highlighting The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which is the largest land access program in history. “LWCF provides millions of acres of public hunting access, yet it largely goes unnoticed by the hunting community,” commented Newberg. “If LWCF is not reauthorized by Congress in 2015, hunters will definitely notice that. My goal is to educate and inform so hunters can take actions locally and nationally.”
