A budget scout rifle build: 1916 Spanish Mauser (VIDEO)

With a cache of $199 Spanish Mausers reaching our shores, one YouTuber applied Col. Jeff Cooper’s scout rifle concept to the mix.

Rechambered in 7.62×51 NATO from the original 7x57mm, the milsurp gun is a good candidate for the scout treatment which in general uses a handy bolt-action rifle in that caliber with a low power, long eye relief optic and functional sling.

The Late Boy Scout added a $60~ AIM Sports 2-7×42 30mm scout scope, a Voodoo Tac butt pouch/comb riser, and a sling then worked on making it all come together.  In the end, it’s a $350-ish package that uses a well-used Mauser variant that is on the low-end of the collectibility scale and gives it some new life.
