New details released by police reveal that the 9-year-old girl who fatally shot an Arizona firearms instructor with an Uzi apparently said the submachine gun was “too much for her” and “hurt her shoulder.”
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office released the incident report — which redacts the girl and her two siblings names — notes that in the immediate aftermath of the Aug. 25 shooting, the family did not realize that the instructor, 39-year-old Charles Vacca, was fatally wounded.
“(The mother) was visibly upset and shaken,” the report reads, with names redacted. “The gun went off and saw (her daughter) drop the gun. (The girl) turned to her and told her the gun was too much for her and it hurt her shoulder. (The mother) said no one knew Vacca was shot until the other instructor ran over.”
Once they realized Vacca had been shot, they immediately called 911.
“We need a helicopter,” the caller said. “An ambulance ain’t gonna work.”
The terrifying conversation continued as the caller stated, “I don’t think he’s gonna make it.”
Vacca was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital, where he later died. The incident has no doubt broke headlines and caused controversy.
“Although certain people will seek to use this tragedy for their own partisan purposes and agenda, the family asks all compassionate Americans to pray for their children and the entire Vacca family,” said the family’s lawyer in a statement today. “Please respect both families’ privacy as they seek to deal with this tragic accident.”
