An 8-year-old Ohio boy found a $20 bill and then gave it to a soldier in memory of his father who was killed while serving a tour in Iraq.
Myles Eckert found the bill in a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Toledo and was excited to think about all the possibilities his newfound money could buy. But when Myles saw Lt. Colonel Frank Daly inside the restaurant in full uniform, he suddenly had a change of heart.
Myles’ father was killed just five weeks after he was born and the young boy carries around mementos to help keep his memory alive. When Myles spotted Daly, he was reminded of his dad and decided to not only “pay it forward,” but also write a heartwarming note.
Dear Soldier,
My dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day! Thank you for your service.

Myles wanted to make one more stop before heading home and his mom took him to visit his father’s grave.
Daly said the kind gesture was “a lifetime direction” and he reads the note every day. He has already given the $20 away and hopes the boy’s words will inspire others to give as well.
