4-year investigation leads to charges for drugs, guns, food stamp fraud (VIDEO)

A Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, investigation launched in 2011 ended with nearly 50 individuals facing charges for guns, drugs and fraud using food stamps.

On Tuesday, as part of Operation Delta Blues and Operation Plastic Castle, 300 law enforcement officers executed 25 arrest warrants, and an additional 17 federal warrants and five state warrants. Seven suspects are still at large and at this time considered wanted fugitives.

The suspects involved in the investigation are accused of selling “significant” amounts of crack cocaine through more than 60 controlled purchases. In addition to the drug investigation, agents with the FBI and USDA conducted undercover operations involving illegal use of SNAP benefits, in which benefits were used to purchase non-covered items, such as beer and cigarettes, as well as trading benefits for cash. Many of those arrested also faced various gun charges.
