In light of the ongoing partial government shutdown, we will keep you posted on ATF’s attendance. Regardless of whether ATF can join us, we hope that you will attend the meeting, as we will review upcoming critical changes to how the firearms and ammunition industries do business, including:
Export Controls – last May the Departments of State and Commerce proposed rules to transition certain firearms and ammunition away from the controls of the U.S. Munitions List over to the Commerce Control List. What will this mean for industry? We will address some of the myths that have been circulated regarding the benefits and potential pitfalls, and important steps industry can take to prepare for the new regulatory landscape.
ATF Changes to “Machine Gun” Definition – ATF’s recent Bump Stock rulemaking will have a significant impact on how machine gun is defined and how ATF will implement the National Firearms Act. We will review the new rules, set to go into effect on March 26, 2019, and the impact on industry.
New this year, we are excited to offer a Back-to-Basics review of ATF controls over firearms and ammunition. This review will be conducted by Johanna Reeves, an attorney with more than fifteen years experience counselling industry members on compliance with federal firearms laws and U.S. export controls, and Rick Vasquez, a renowned firearms technology expert with more than fifteen years with ATF.
