IFC to give away $18,000 in active-shooter training scholarships to Iowa educators and school staff members.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition (IFC) is proud to announce they’ve launched a new, active-shooter training program designed for educators and school staff in Iowa.

Called the IFC Educator Academy, the program, which will be held from August 15th through the 17th, 2023, is an intensive three-day training program that will provide educators with the essential skills and knowledge needed to respond to active shooter threats in schools effectively. The program will be led by the esteemed Lt. Col. Ed Monk, the nation’s foremost expert in active-shooter research, and Adam Winch, a police trainer and founder of Defenders USA.

In a commitment to accessibility and affordability, IFC is offering 18 scholarships to deserving participants and will cover the full $1000 course fee. During the program, educators will delve into a historical examination of active shooter threats in schools and the need to neutralize them, quickly. The instruction will cover:

  • Tactical movement training
  • Precision in handgun usage
  • Firearms skills assessments

IFC Chair John McLaughlin says he believes in the transformative potential of this program to make Iowa’s schools safer.

“Our desire is these participants go home with the realization that willing staff can get safely trained to a high level through coursework like this,” said McLaughlin. “We are hoping to plant seeds that will eventually result in protecting children the only statistically proven way, instant on-site response when evil arrives on campus.”

McLaughlin emphasizes that any school staff member committed to protecting others is welcome and that the Academy empowers participants with cutting-edge science-based techniques and learner-centric methods, enabling them to safeguard their schools and communities more effectively.

Educators eager to participate should visit the IFC website at IFC Educators Academy – Iowa Firearms Coalition (iowafc.org) or contact McLaughlin directly at jmclaughlin@iowafc.org to learn more about the scholarship application process and secure their place in this life-saving program.

The program will be held at Crossroads Shooting Sports in Johnston, Iowa, an immersive setting that provides an excellent backdrop for this practical training.
