Suspect accidentally shoots cop while trying to ditch gun

A 25-year-old known gang member is facing a few extra charges after he tried to ditch a gun while fleeing from Chicago police this week, only to have the gun accidentally go off and strike one of the pursuing officers.

According to prosecutors, Rafael Martir-Ubiles attempted to toss the gun onto a rooftop, but it instead hit a wall and somehow fired, with the bullet hitting the officer in the shoulder. Ubiles was eventually apprehended after being tased twice, and now, in addition to resisting an officer and unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member, he is also facing charges for aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated assault of a police officer. He is being held without bail.
