The moments in which police officers stormed the Sydney coffee shop, ending a 16-hour standoff which left three people dead, including the gunman, and several injured, were captured on raw video by cameramen covering the chaotic scene. Officers go to the door of the cafe as gunfire erupts and what appears to be flashbang grenades are thrown inside. Terrified hostages can be seen as they are rushed to safety.
The incident has renewed the gun control debate, but Jeffery Bourman, member of the Victorian Legislative Council, pointed out what many gun rights advocates already see as the obvious: “Most of our gun laws now seem to be aimed at the law-abiding, not at the criminals.”
