A 42-year-old Missouri mom said she was simply protecting herself when she pulled a gun on three teens at Fleet Park in St. Charles County, and although she never pulled the trigger, the teens’ mother is outraged and said the woman needs to be charged with a crime.
Don and Tracy Leeser said there is “bad blood” between their 15-year-old son, Brett, and the teens his mother confronted, Tyrelle Ware, 15, his brother, Terrence Ware, 18, and Jack Herren. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Leesers said the strife started when Don broke up a fight between two girls – who are friends with the teens – outside of his home last week.
During the scuffle, Don pulled a knife on Terrence as the teen reached for his pocket and the father feared he was retrieving a weapon, but Terrence claimed his hands were visible the entire time.
The situation eventually settled, but later that evening, the Leesers received a text message from Brett asking for help because he believed he was about to get jumped by a group of teens, including the Ware brothers.
Moments later, the worried parents showed up at the park – Don carrying a baseball bat and Tracy toting a pistol. A portion of the confrontation was captured on cell phone video, which was shared on Facebook and YouTube. The YouTube video has since been removed.
Tracy is seen getting into an R-rated screaming match with the teens on the video before pulling her gun on them. Eventually, the police were called to the park to break up the confrontation.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, but Christina Halton, the Ware brothers’ mother, said the Leesers went too far and need to face charges for what they did.
“If they don’t get charged, what kind of example are we setting for our children — that’s it’s OK to pull guns on kids?” Halton said. “No, this is not how we deal with kids.”
But Tracy Lesser doesn’t think she did anything wrong.
“Did I intend to use the gun? Absolutely not,” she said. “But I felt that was my only safeguard against being killed that night. Worst-case scenario, yes, I would have used it. But I didn’t.”
At this point, no charges have been filed against any of the involved parties, but the Lessers believe the trouble is far from over. In fact, several days later, someone shot up the front of their home with a BB gun, leaving their 8-year-old daughter – who was in the living room – unharmed but traumatized.
