Washington, DC –-(Ammoland.com)- The Montana Shooting Sports Association was active in supporting pro-gun and pro-hunting candidates in the recent elections, especially candidates for the Montana Legislature.

MSSA mailed almost 60,000 informative postcards to registered voters in 17 key legislative districts. The candidates MSSA supported won their elections in 15 of those districts. Our favored candidate lost by 47 votes in one district, and in the last district we helped our guy is so close a recount will be held.

Of course, we had to make some guesses before the election. We knew who the good guys (and gals) were, because of voting records on incumbents and candidate surveys of new candidates.

What we didn’t know is who would win which races and by what margins. We agonized some over what races to select to apply our scarce resources. Frankly, we picked wrong in a few races. A few deserving candidates we supported didn’t actually need our help (it turned out), despite our concern, and won their elections handily by 60%, 70%, even 80% margins.

However, based on past results, we figure we were able to sway at least 5% of the vote in the races we sided. And, there were seven of the 15 winners who won with 55% or less, just a few votes in some cases. So, we definitely put some pro-gun and pro-hunting people into the Legislature for the next session, people who wouldn’t have won seats in the Legislature without our help.

This is important because MSSA will have the most extensive legislative agenda next session that we’ve ever tackled – ever. I know we’re effective. I just hope we’re effective enough to do a good job with this many bills. With a friendly Legislature and your ongoing help, I’m optimistic.

Your help will be critical. Please familiarize yourself with the issues on the MSSA 2011 legislative agenda as expressed in our Legislative Candidate Questionnaire at: www.progunleaders.org/lcq2010/index.html

so you will be prepared to communicate with your legislators about these issues as the need arises when the Legislature convenes in January.

Best wishes,
