It’s been months in the works, and a long wait for both Magpul and Ruger 10/22 fans, but the Magpul Hunter X-22 stock for Ruger 10/22 rifles is now shipping. The Magpul Hunter X-22 stock is a functional and tacticool upgrade for 10/22 rifles that adds a lot of extra features including M-Lok mounting slots.
An ergonomic design, the marked stock is made from the same high quality reinforced polymer shooters expect from Magpul, with an aggressive pistol grip, an adjustable length of pull and adjustable comb height to fit shooters of all sizes.
With its features and improvements, the Magpul Hunter X-22 stock will be a must-have upgrade for shooters looking to inject a little black rifle DNA into their 10/22 or just add the advanced feature set. Priced at $139 it’s extremely competitive and it will be surprising if we don’t see 10/22-pattern rifles sold with it standard.
The Magpul Hunter X-22 comes with M-Lok slots along the sides and underneath the forend that accept accessories based on the new Magpul standard. M-Lok accessories including angular forgrips and Picatinny rail adapters can be attached directly to the stock and locked in place.
The entire stock is modular, using spacers to extend the length of pull along with different height cheekpieces that make finding the right cheek weld and the right scope height particularly easy when it comes to mounting optics. Another big piece of the design is the reversible barrel tray that accommodates both standard and bull barrel diameters.
The stock has traditional sling loops on the right and left side of the buttstock and can be modified to accept forward sling loops with M-Lok adapters. In its standard configuration it weighs a little under 2.5 pounds putting it in the middle of the pack — it’s not an ultralight stock nor is it a heavy target or competition stock — about average when compared to previous tactical synthetic stocks.
While the modular upgrades are sold separately, they’re also pretty affordable. Cheek riser kits run $15 at full price, including two cheek risers. The low riser kit includes a .25-inch and .5-inch riser while the high riser kit comes with the .5- and a .75-inch riser.
The Hunter cheek riser kits are the same as the SGA shotgun cheek risers which are already available and easy to find.
Slings start around $34 and M-Lok bipod and quick-detach sling adapters run around $20. Those are all MSRPs and real-world prices are a good deal less.
