U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)-Ever since the release of Kid Rock’s song “Cowboy” off of the “Devil Without a Cause” album in the summer of 1998 album, country rap has entered the lexicon of music. Recently country rap, also known as “hick-hop,” has become one of the fastest growing genres of music.
Combining the beats of country and hip-hop might seem like strange bedfellows, but throngs of adoring fans calmer to so seeing their favorite “hick-hop” artist. From Cowboy Troy to Colt Ford, more and more groups are finding mainstream success.
Long Cut
One of the fastest rising hick-hop acts currently is the duo “Long Cut.” Long Cut consists of two friends, JT Adams and Bryan Thomas, who came up with the name of their group while going through a Wendy’s drive-through. Both started out as purely country music artists but have made the transition to hick-hop stars.
With hits like their singles “Country Roads” and “Pleasant Grove,” they are taking the music industry by storm. They do not just rap about the standard fare of pickup trucks and parties but also hit out on some more profound ideas such as freedom of speech. I had a chance to speak with JT and Bryan about their music and firearms.
John: Your music combines country and rap. Would you consider yourself a country music artist or a rap artist first?
Long cut: We consider ourselves artist first in general. It’s a great opportunity to combine the two genres.
John: Who are your musical influences?
Long Cut: Demun Jones, Eric Church, Randy Travis. It’s all over the board. So many great ones out there.
John: How was Long Cut formed?
Long Cut: The idea has been around for over two years. We became official about six months ago.
John: What is the “Spit Cup Posse”?
Long Cut: The Spit Cup Posse are the fans, the family that is making this happen.
John: Long Cut keeps true to their roots. Do you think it is important to remember where you are from in life?
Long Cut: Absolutely! You will never have a clear vision of the future if you don’t know where you came from.
John: What type of firearms do you enjoy?
Long Cut: The Kimber 1911 is a great piece of gear. I would have to say our favorite is the Windham AR-15.
John: Why is the second amendment important to you?
Long Cut: It’s what makes us American. The right to bear arms is the definition of our freedom from government. Without it, you risk losing Freedom of speech, which is what our careers is based on.
John: What is your dream weapon?
- JT: SOCOM 2!!! So sexy.
- Bryan: Fat Man or Little Boy.
John: What do you think future holds for hick hop?
Long Cut: Hick Hop is growing every day. Our future for Hick Hop is to take over. With the current trends in Hick Hop, there is no reason why this can’t be a mainstream genre.
John: What is next up for Long Cut?
Long Cut: Stay humble, stay focused and take over.
