Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- The Colorado recalls are finally here, and the implications of today’s vote go far beyond the borders of one state or the careers of the two politicians facing recall–state senators John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) and Angela Giron (D-Pueblo).
As University of Colorado-Colorado Springs associate professor Joshua Dunn stated, “These are local elections that have national implications.”
Reuters stresses that the broader implications were evident when wealthy out-of-state supporters of gun control like NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg began writing checks to help Morse and Giron withstand the grassroots opposition.
As voters head to the polls, more than $3.5 million has now been donated by outside interests on both sides–but “most of that is from opponents of the recall efforts [like Bloomberg].”
The NRA has tried to counter Bloomberg by giving money as well. Magpul Industries has also joined in this endeavor, and the RNC is on the ground in Colorado supporting the recall effort by helping to get out the vote.
If Coloradans successfully recall even one of the two senators from their offices, momentum for the repeal of the latest gun control laws in Colorado could hit an all-time high. Moreover, groups like Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns will find themselves less welcome on the national stage than they already are.
As senator Giron herself admitted in late August: “For Mayors Against Illegal Guns, if they lose even one of these seats, they might as well fold it up. And they understand that.”
