Cobalt Kinetics brings its ingenuity to the table in an all-new rifle series, Twenty-Seven, which takes a modern approach to traditional semi-auto rifles.

Chambered in a various calibers, the Twenty-Seven series debuts with four models — Sentry, Ranger, Hunter and Expert. The Sentry and Ranger model are offered in 5.56 NATO while the Hunter delivers more long-range capabilities with .223 Wylde, .224 Valkyrie and 6.5 Grendel. The Expert rounds the series off chambered in .223 Wylde.

Though the rifles sport a California approved design, Cobalt Kinetics says the series is much more than a state compliant long gun. Cobalt engineers aimed to make what the company calls a “more traditionally proportioned rifle.” The rifles’ stock geometry is closer to that of traditional hunting rifles but remains fully adjustable for length of pull and drop at the buttplate. The grip’s shape and angle is created to be both comfortable and place the hand slightly above and behind the trigger.

“We have had a lot of requests for a semi-automatic rifle more suited for hunters and other sportsmen. I don’t like to compare it to other AR-15s. It does use many of the internal components of the AR-15, but we believe that it’s a step up from the old bolt action rifle,” Vice President of Cobalt Kinetics, Skylar Stewart, said in a press release. “We’re looking back in time for inspiration while also looking ahead. 27 is the atomic number for the element Cobalt. The twenty-seven line is a return to fundamentals.”

The company intends to eventually adapt the design into the XL lineup, which boasts larger frames and calibers. Until then, Cobalt is taking pre-orders on the Twenty-Seven line, with expected ship date in May.

Available in a variety of color schemes, the Twenty-Seven series starts at $1,765 with prices topping out at $3,760.
