BREAKING: Capitol Hill locked down after car chase, gunfire; Suspect dead (VIDEO)

Capitol Hill was locked down today during a car chase and brief gunfire, leaving the suspect dead and an officer injured.

The suspect, a woman who the authorities did not identify, tried to breach a White House security barrier around 2 p.m. and then led police in a car chase that ended in the downtown area, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine told the Washington Post.

At the White House, Secret Service officers tried to pull her over, but she sped away, the New York Times reported. It’s unclear if they opened fire on the suspect’s vehicle.

In her black Infiniti, the suspect made her way across town where she ultimately struck a police car on Capitol Hill before crashing into a barricade. Police opened fire on the woman, striking her, ending the chase. She was later transported to the hospital where she reportedly died.

According to reports, the police were the only ones to open fire, but it is unclear whether or not the woman was armed. There are also reports that a young child was found in the car. The child was brought to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident,” Chief Dine said.

The police officer was injured either when his squad car was struck or struck something during the chase.

This story will be updated as details are confirmed.
