Bear & Son Cutlery 5009D Caper India Fixed Blade Knife, “Even though this Product Review was written on the regular caping knife if you want to step it up a notch check out the Damascus version shown here”.

Idaho – -( I was recently writing an article for a magazine and was requested to include a knife from Bear & Son Cutlery. Looking at their website, the Bear & Son Cutlery Genuine India Stag Bone Caper 5009 stuck out to me. First off it is a beautiful little knife with a cool looking scabbard.

Buy Online Button ClearFirst, we’ll go over the features that caught my eye at first blush. I like the genuine India stag handle but unlike a lot of stag handled knives the handle is sleek and not over powering. Many of my stag handled knives awkwardly overfill my hand.

Next, it only has a nickel/silver bolster on the front half of the knife. That makes it unique and attractive. The handle is a little too short to fill your hand but the bottom of the blade has a finger groove and there are thumb grooves on the back of the spine that are super aggressive so you will have a firm grip on the knife while caping.

I love the design of the thumb grooves. The spine of the blade has a quarter moon divot cut into it which forces you to push your thumb against the front of the grooves which further enhances your grip. The grooves are not some little minute after thought. They are deep grooves. You almost get the feeling that you could use them to saw a small limb! They are the best (most stable) thumb grooves I have seen.

The blade is the perfect length and shape to satisfy all of your caping needs or tasks when skinning out the toes and feet on bears.

The sheath is a light brown color and is attractive. The BEAR & SON name stamped on the side adds to the flavor. It has a plastic insert inside the sheath to prevent the blade from sticking though.

The Bear & Son Cutlery Genuine India Stag Bone Caper is a nice looking, functional knife.

As we come to a close, I love this little knife and think that it is super attractive to boot. Now for the one kinker. The knife sets super loose in the sheath and if you turn it upside down and even lightly shake it, the knife will fall out

The MSRP is $89.99 but you can pick it up for less $$ online and as usual, we will close with the specs.
