Below is a Q&A from Courtley on the show, his life as a Special Operations warrior/survivalist and advice for those wanting to live this lifestyle:

Q:           Tell us about you – how did you get here?
A:            I was raised in Boulder, Colorado where I spent much of my early life in the outdoors. After graduating from the University of San Diego, I was commissioned (ROTC) into the United States Navy as an Ensign. Eventually, I was chosen to attend the elite SEAL Sniper school, a privilege only given to a select few. During my nine years of active duty, I went on to lead highly-classified, high-risk operations around the world. Back in civilian life, I’ve done TV shows, media circuits and speaking engagements all to bring survival skills to civilians. I created SEAL SURVIVAL LLC, a company that covers all aspects of survival to include products, training, speaking engagements, and an elite team of former SEAL’s for “problem solving.”

Q:           Give us a brief synopsis of the show and why viewers should tune in to this new series on Sportsman Channel?
A:            Quite simply this show can save lives. And, even if you don’t decide to fully unplug, you will learn from this show. It will open your eyes.

Q:           Do you have a favorite episode? Tell us about it.
A:            I really like the very first episode on electromagnetic pulse events (EMP) with Scott Hunt out of South Carolina. It addresses what to do in the worst-case scenario.  EMPs are naturally occurring, but it is the man-made ones that pose the most threats. Scott gives us a tour of his 55-acre self-sustaining compound and we’ll see his personal EMP bug-out bag, which is made of caged material specifically designed to protect from electromagnetic pulses. Oh, and he has a “Mad Max” vehicle that runs on wood.

Q:           What is the key takeaway you want to convey?
A:            It’s not a matter of if, but when, so change your mindset and start preparing.

Q:           What is the most interesting aspect of the people profiled?
A:            These people are not doomsday wackos. They are intelligent, caring folks who have made a choice.

Q:           What are the biggest mistakes rookie survivalists make?
A:            Getting in over their head. You need to start slow and take each step in pieces. Plan to live 10 days on your own, off the grid. Supply your own food, water, security and generator and see how that goes. Then, try it for a weekend. Did you get through it? What holes need to be filled? What went right or wrong? You need to practice so that when faced with an event in real life, you know exactly what you need to do.
